The National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity is joining with two other nonprofit organizations addressing physical activity to for a new organization.
Physical activity continues to be a major health concern and has been described as pandeminc. For this reason, the National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity, the National Physical Activity Society, and the National Physical Activity Plan Alliance are meging into on physical activity collaborative (yet to be named) that can build on the base established over the past years and that will invite the community of the many organizations/coalitions with a concern for the problem to coordinate their effors, financial committments, and in-kind resources. The new collaborative will bring these multiple stakeholders in the physical activity community together to be impactful in policy, systems, and environment change.

The National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity (NCPPA) today announced new leadership to its board of directors for the 2019-2020 term and reiterated its commitment to empowering and inspiring all Americans to lead more physically active lives. Helen Durkin, J.D.—30-year fitness industry veteran and executive vice president for public policy for the International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association (IHRSA)—will take over as NCPPA president and spearhead the coalition’s advocacy and public policy efforts for the next two years. Pam Watts, executive director of NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation, will serve as NCPPA’s president-elect. James Whitehead, executive vice president and CEO of the American College of Sports Medicine, will serve as NCPPA’s secretary-treasurer.

Tuesday, May 15, 2018, Washington, DC—The National Coalition for Promoting Physical Activity (NCPPA) sponsored a briefing on Capitol Hill on May 10 to call attention to how Congress, the Administration, industry, nonprofits and others within both the public and private sectors can work together to create a national way of life that supports and inspires physical activity—a linchpin for a physically, economically, and militarily stronger America. The event, “Creating an Active America Together,” was held during National Physical Fitness and Sports Month and came on the heels of an all-day workshop at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to address the issue of obesity and overweight in the armed forces.
